Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre - February 7, 2026

The murder mystery dinner was a fun evening. It was a little unorganized when we first got there, though. Some guests were sitting at random tables without checking in at the main entrance. So when we got there, the staff was having to find space for both the guests in front of us at check in and us since others were people already sitting at our assigned tables. After we got seated, everything else ran smoothly. 

We had the best time. I feel so at home at the school house. My daughter in law and I had a great time at the murder mystery dinner and the food was delicious. We stayed over night in one of the room which was very cozy and comfortable. 

We had a wonderful time. The food was amazing. The actors were fun and engaging. The mystery actually stumped us! I hope they’ll be doing another mystery dinner soon.

Love Nome Schoolhouse, food was delicious, staff is always great to work with. The play itself was mediocre. But the idea of dinner and a play was a great idea.

It was a good weekend I enjoyed my stay like I usually do 

It is a beautiful place . A true labor of love on the part of the owner and community. Very clean - very unique- very friendly and welcoming . We were treated so well! 

It was a very fun and interesting experience! The food was also very good. 

The tour exceeded my expectations.  I liked the pace we were on even though it was a lot to absorb for the novice I am.  I did have experience with dyeing wool but I still felt it was integral to our experience.  I especially was grateful we got to see the mill machines in operation and have the chance to play a part in the output of each one.  I have no experience spinning but with the carded wool we produced I will definitely get some training to use it.  Chris was a wealth of information and provided just enough not to overwhelm me.

The stay part of the retreat was a real treat also.  The food was great and the room just right because it was themed appropriately and not overdone.  

Multi-Day Fiber Mill Exclusive w/Chris

Once again, I had a great experience taking the basket making class at the Nome Schoolhouse. Marcy, our instructor,  was as always a brilliant and patient teacher. I wait with anticipation for her next class. 
The Nome Schoolhouse was a gracious host with delicious food and a serene atmosphere.

Jean’s class was awesome.  I learned a lot and really enjoyed the way the class progressed.  I will be watching for other classes from Jean as I really enjoyed her teaching style.  Everything was so well prepared and her artistic knowledge helped me progress in my needle felting art.

As for the Nome Schoolhouse, I can’t say enough good things about it.  The hospitality is beyond anything I have experienced in 5 star hotels.   The rooms are historical, fun and very comfortable.  The setting of the Nome Schoolhouse couldn’t be more perfect.  

If you enjoy time away from your everyday life, crafts and art classes, then check out the offerings.  It’s great to go, have all your meals provided and time to just craft, relax, meet other travelers, enjoy the history of the schoolhouse and to see a real working wool processing mill.  There is a great Schoolhouse store where you can easily find supplies for your wool crafts or just a fun purchase to remind you of your time there.

Last and for me one of the most important parts of going to Nome Schoolhouse for events, is the food.  I wanted to take the Chef’s home.  I live in a city where I have many choices of restaurants, but none compare to the food I was served at the Schoolhouse.  I hope you get the chance to visit even if it’s just for a night out or a tour of the Schoolhouse and Mill.  What ever you do, don’t leave without a loaf of Cinnamon bread.

It was a very fun retreat. I learned so much and very much enjoyed the experience.

I had an amazing time felting Henrietta the chicken. Jean was a great instructor. The Nome Schoolhouse was the perfect location for the class, they had excellent food we could eat before our class. I loved felting so much I went back the next day to buy more supplies!!!

It was an absolute delight! Most of the people came from a distance for the class. We traveled about 150 miles, but it was so worth it. The Nome schoolhouse is a diamond in the rough. The food was great, the rooms were so unique, and the class was extremely fun. It was nice to walk out of there with the homemade item and a new skill.

KNITTING BEYOND THE BASICS: Expanding your Knitting Techniques

The Knot Your Average Weaving Retreat was fabulous! I learned many new weaving techniques and explored a great variety of materials in my woven pieces. Terry Neal was patient and helpful! She had many examples that showed exciting possibilities for weaving on a table loom. She paced the instruction well and provided individual attention when it was requested. It was a delight to be with other fiber enthusiasts in a  beautiful setting. The Nome Schoolhouse staff are all friendly and attentive, making a stay there a memorable and relaxing experience.

Knot Your Average Weaving w/Terry Neal

It was a fantastic week!

The instructor, Beth Trotti, was a great teacher.  She taught everything that the was in the description and more.  Her teaching methods were very helpful and she made sure that everyone understood what was being taught, and was very reassuring that with practice the skills that she taught us would improve.  Beth was available to answer any and all questions that the class had.   I am very happy to have taken the workshop, and would not hesitate to take additional classes from her.

The Nome Schoolhouse was an awesome place to stay.  It was a cozy and welcoming experience.  The staff were very friendly and made me feel right at home.

I look forward to another visit to the Nome Schoolhouse and will keep an eye out for more spinning classes from Beth.

Finesse Your Spinning Skills Drafting, Blending & Plying w/Beth Trotti

I learned so much in this class. Beth is extremely knowledgeable and is really able to teach in a way that makes it fun. Nome Schoolhouse never disappoints!  The staff goes above and beyond to make the stay enjoyable. Can’t wait for the next one. 

Was a fun day, the teacher was great a but a little more explaining of the steps when we actually got to that step. besides a group explanation when we weren't to the step yet. The meal could have been better. The facility was excellent.

Basket Weaving the Storage Basket - with your personal touch

Yet another great basket workshop with Marcy. She is an amazing instructor and always finds ways to help each participant complete a beautiful basket no matter how long it takes or how many oopsies occur along the way. We got to choose from an amazing array of colors resulting in 10 different colorful baskets. I'm already signed up for the next two workshops in August and November. And as always the Nome Schoolhouse is amazing!

Marcy always has a great class! I have done a lot of her classes and always enjoying learning new techniques! Lunch was great!

Wonderful teacher for basket weaving. Project turned out great! My only concern was a lack of protein served for lunch. We had a salad and cream based soup. 

Great pine needle weaving workshop.  Great place to spend a night, very charming.  Would do it again.

The Bear Creek Bunny Retreat with Teresa was an amazing experience!  I learned so much about needle felting and creating these whimsical characters.  Teresa is a wonderful teacher.  The Nome Schoolhouse is a inspiring place to learn so many different fiber arts skills.

What an amazing experience!  I learned more about fiber processing than I expected.  The time in the fiber mill was priceless.  Chris's excitement and enthusiasm was infectious and you could tell fiber is her passion.  The accommodations and meals were great! All of the staff were very welcoming and helpful. I feel lucky that this place is less than 2 hours from me. I hope to be back for a meal, shopping, or another retreat!

All Inclusive Weekend in the Fiber Mill with Chris Armbrust

This was another FANTASTIC weekend at Nome Schoolhouse as our annual FCS retreat. Blessed to have this opportunity in our rural state. Chris is a phenomenal host and a 'Jack of all Trades,' ALWAYS willing to go above and beyond to make the customer feel at home. A relaxing weekend of fun, food, and friends!! :) 

2025 FCS Continuing Ed - Fiber Retreat

BEAUTIFUL setting. The perfect place for a quiet retreat or small wedding, family reunion, etc. The old schoolhouse has been restored so incredibly well. Definitely a one of a kind place! The food is AMAZING and service can't be beat. I have visited three years in a row and they just keep getting better! Definitely recommend going out of your way to see this place!

This was an incredible experience. The room was perfect. The food was fabulous and you are treated so well. I would highly recommend staying here to just stay or taking part in one of their classes or retreats. They do a wonderful job teaching and going through stuff.

I spent a wonderful 9 hours constructing a basket with Marcy and a room full of other participants. The time flew by as Marcy moved us through the project step by step patiently and calmly answering our questions and fixing our oopsies. The Nome Schoolhouse added to the peacefulness of the day with its country views and beautiful interiors.

Absolutely fabulous once again! Literally look forward to this every single year like a kid on Christmas!

Nome Schoolhouse is the perfect venue for an inspiring crafting retreat.  The staff have nothing but care for their guests.  The landscape is serene anytime of year and the building is cozy and inviting.  Highly recommend!

I'm not sure what possessed me to try a basket weaving class but I'm so happy I did!!!  Marcy was kind and patient working with someone who had never tried weaving a basket.  My limited experience with any type of weaving involved making hotpads back in grade school so there is my level of knowledge.   Marcy answered all my questions and stepped in to help me when I needed it.  I would recommend to anyone looking for something different to take a class with Marcy and enjoy your time.  Added bonus was taking this class at the Nome Schoolhouse so you get a little bit of history in the process.  Stay over night the night before your class and enjoy good food at the restaurant with friendly knowledgeable staff and delicious food.  

Marcy, our instructor, is a gifted teacher, able to let each class member proceed at their pace.  No pressure, instead a focus on enjoying the process!  Our baskets are beautiful. 
Nome schoolhouse is a worthwhile destination.  Should I feel guilty sleeping in a classroom?! 
 They provided an enormous, gluten free breakfast with our room.  Lunch was included with the class.  Dinner the night before was drinks, chicken wings and burgers in their restaurant.  Our class was on Valentine's Day so we stayed for an appetizer, salad, main meal, drinks and dessert special meal. 
And, did I mention YARN, ALL THINGS WOOL, and tours available! 
We will be back, for certain!

WOW! My mom & I went to this retreat not knowing much about wool or any fibers at all. Wow has that changed! In our group there were folks who had their own flocks of sheep and alpaca, Chris would give specific information relating to their animals while still managing to not go over my head. 

Everyone on staff was incredibly generous with their time and their resources. We walked away with an entire garbage bag of art supplies AND a full belly- I think I'm still full after two days! 

On our way home, we were planning who would we would bring with us for the next retreat. ❤️ Chris, Teresa, & their team deserve all the success that comes their way.

I had a wonderful time! The Nome schoolhouse is amazing along with the people there! A great place for a retreat and classes. This was the second time I was as Nome and look forward to my next visit.

The knitting classes with Cori were amazing! A beautiful woman inside and out filled with so much knowledge and an excellent way of teaching. She was always watching each participant to see if they had questions or were having issues completing the stitches. Before you knew it, she was standing beside you with a gentle hint that solved the problem. After teaching for 30 years, I noticed her natural love of her work and her natural way of passing on that information. I look forward to having the opportunity to take more classes from her.

Once again Karen’s barn quilt class was awesome! I had a great time, she is so good to help participants!! I would definitely go again. The site at Nome school house is great, food was phenomenal. 

Overall the knitting retreat experience was wonderful. Cori did an excellent job educating the class on a multiple number of new techniques including Latvian braid, beaded hat, 50 shades of sweaters fit/flatter and tips/tricks for more efficient knitting. The group stayed engaged throughout the class time. I would recommend Cori's classes to anyone who wants to learn more in-depth knitting skills.  I enjoyed meeting the Nome Schoolhouse staff. Rhonda took great care of our group. The shop was filled with lots of great gift items. I spent more than I thought I would! 

Had a fabulous time.  Such a unique venue.  Food was scrumptious, rooms charming and comfortable, public spaces were beautiful.  Jean’s classes were fantastic!!  All the supplies we needed were prepared and organized and she gave great instruction!  I didn’t expect to like what I created, but I did!

The rooms are just lovely! We had wonderful food! One evening waz Swedish meatballs and the other pork roast. Both were very tasty! The time in camp with the ladies was a blast! Everybody doing different projects. One crafter was weaving pine needle baskets! Another crafter did this beautiful paper art. Fun was had by all.

It was a wonderful class as usual. The instructors are fun, informative, and very helpful. This was my second time taking it!

We had a great time, can't wait to go back.  Hospitality and food were amazing.  Theresa and Chris have done an amazing job creating the fiber arts center.

Fall Needle Felting Mastery Retreat: Basics and Beyond

I had such a wonderful time on this retreat.  Everything was better than expected, including  the airport pickup, the lovely accommodations, the retreat center, the felting instructions.  The vegetarian gluten free meals were better than I could have imaged.  All the people involved in creating this retreat were wonderful people and they went above and beyond to ensure a great experience.  I felt very privileged to have been able to spend 5 daystar the schoolhouse, relaxing, learning, visiting, resting and eating.  I look forward to going back for another retreat.  Thank you Nome Schoolhouse and Bear Creek felting for a wonderful get away.
